Ramona Grasslands Conservation Bank
In 2021, San Diego Habitat Conservancy and the San Diego Wildlife Alliance Global were busy preparing and maintaining the Ramona Grasslands for the Western Burrowing Owl re-establishment. Check out all of the progress made thus far below! Ramona Grasslands Conservation Bank
In March of 2021, The San Diego Union Tribune documented the scouting of new locations for aviaries and burrows so that San Diego Habitat Conservancy and the San Diego Wildlife Alliance Global can continue reintroducing the Western Burrowing Owl to the Ramona Grasslands Preserve. 
Ramona Grasslands Conservation Bank
In 2021, 24 Western Burrowing Owls were reintroduced to our Ramona Grasslands Preserve from a captive breeding program at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The San Diego Union Tribune covered the event, and related blessing by the San Pasqual Band of Diegueno Mission Indians. 
Quarry Creek Preserve
In February 2021 volunteers with SDHC and A Cleaner North County worked to remove over 3,000 pounds of trash from our Quarry Creek Preserve. Check out the news coverage from KPBS. 
Otay Crossings Preserve
Our Otay Crossings Preserve was highlighted in the San Diego County News in August 2018. This preserve provides 25 acres of potential habitat for burrowing owl, as well as a number of other sensitive plant and animal species. 
Wanis View Preserve
Our new Wanis View Preserve was featured in the Osider in July 2018. Learn about the long road to getting this land conserved and under management. 
Sierra Ridge Open Space Preserve
Sierra Ridge Open Space Preserve was featured in the Osider in May 2018. Learn a little about this preserve which SDHC began managing over 12 years after negotiations began!

July 2018 - After nearly 17 years of planning and negotiations, including a five-year restoration effort, SDHC is now the long-term manager of the 87.83-acre Wanis View Preserve which was set aside as mitigation for the Wanis View Estates residential development. Learn more in our press release. |

May 2018 - SDHC is the long-term manager for the 6.2-acre Sage Creek High School Preserve set aside as mitigation for Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad. This site is adjacent to other conserved areas, including Carlsbad Highlands Ecological Preserve. Learn more in our press release. |

November 2016 - After many years of planning, SDHC is now managing 120.5 acres of high quality native habitat in San Marcos known as Rancho Coronado Preserve. The site is recovering after the May 2014 Cocos Fire and is undergoing a 5-year restoration effort to create and enhance the wetland areas. Learn more in our press release. |
