San Diego Habitat Conservancy (SDHC) is a nationally accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing a high quality habitat management service. SDHC currently manages 33 open space preserves in southern California and is contracted to manage an additional 4 once restoration is completed for a total of nearly 2,000 acres. SDHC ensures that the open space preserves we manage are ecologically valuable with quality habitat that adds value to regional conservation efforts. SDHC’s management of these preserves occurs in coordination with countywide conservation efforts.
SDHC is led by a board of directors and staff who share a passion for our mission to protect the sensitive habitats and species we are lucky to have in southern California.
San Diego Habitat Conservancy’s financial information is available on Guidestar.
In San Diego County, two large-scale, comprehensive conservation management plans, the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP) Plan and the Multiple Habitat Conservation Program Plan (MHCP) , are in place to conserve regional biodiversity by maintaining wildlife corridors and linkages, avoiding the creation of islands or pockets of habitat, while accommodating smart growth. These programs were developed pursuant to the federal and California Endangered Species Acts and California’s Natural Community Conservation Planning (NCCP) Program.
