This 9.6-acre open space preserve is located along the San Diego River within the limits of Mast Park in the City of Santee. The preserve is located east of Carlton Hills Boulevard and north of Willowgrove Avenue, along the southern bank of the river. A portion of the open space easement, 5.25 acres, is currently undergoing restoration as part of a five-year mitigation plan. The restoration program, including removal of invasive exotic species and establishment of wetland species, is being conducted by contractors to Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and is expected to be completed by 2009. The SDHC will commence long-term habitat management of the entire 9.6 acre preserve in 2009. Key stewardship activities planned for this open space include picking up trash and debris, checking preserve signs, fencing and gates, assessing the quality of the wetland habitat, community outreach and education by distribution of informational fliers to surrounding residents, annual weeding events, invasive species control and annual reporting to the City and wildlife agencies. Species of Special Interest: Least Bell's Vireo. Place your cursor over a marked area for a brief description of the habitat. Click the map for more information. WETLANDS
